The call to protect ourselves and comply with the measures to prevent COVID-19, was felt this Wednesday during the exchange of the Director of Public Health in the Guantánamo municipality with the delegates of the territory.
He reported that, until this January 5, there were already 33 Guantanamo residents confirmed with COVID-19, none of them with the OMICROM variant, however, the more than 200 contacts that are currently monitored demonstrate the lack of perception of risk existing in the population currently.
He explained that 17 of the positives are national or international travelers, which is why it is required that when a person arrives from abroad, the health authorities are immediately informed to apply the necessary measures to avoid outbreaks of the disease in the community.
Currently, as part of the new coronavirus control strategy, it was decided that only the confirmed and high-risk suspects would be admitted, the rest of the staff will be monitored at their home with restriction and under their own responsibility and the Community Health Councils. If the procedures are violated, the law is very clear about the actions to be applied.
It is clarified that travelers who must undergo PCR, will have to pay for said procedure at the clinic located in Paseo and Los Maceo, and if confirmed, they will be immediately isolated.
The 5 respiratory guard corps were activated in the Health areas and tents were set up, since to date it was decided to maintain all services to the town. The state health inspection will also be resumed at all centers, since workers are known to come to work with respiratory symptoms, exposing everyone not only to COVID-19, but to Type A influenza, which currently circulates in the territory with high incidence and high danger.
In this context, the slow progress of the booster vaccination in the Center and East of the capital city was criticized, due to problems with transportation, but also the low attendance of people to the vaccination sites. As a strategy, they decided to prioritize the immunization of residents in the settlements surrounding the city.
It is clarified that the booster vaccination only requires being over 18 years of age and 3 months after having received the last dose, either from Abdala or any of the Cuban and international candidates available. Even convalescents of the disease inoculated with Soberana Plus may be injected, as long as they meet the requirements described above.
